Canvas artworks
Artworks on canvas can be stretched on wooden stretcher bars and left unframed. They usually do not require glass protection or matboard borders. The framing methods for them are different from artworks on paper but there are still many styles and methods you can explore make your piece stand out.
Quality stretcher bars and workmanship
On consultation, we will inspect your painting and advise on a suitable thickness of the stretcher bars and framing methods. We provide lightweight solid wood stretcher bars with rounded edges that are ideal for stretching canvases and are less likely cause cracks at the edges.
Stretching on cheap alternatives with sharp right-angled edges may cause the artwork to crack. The cheaper alternatives use wood that are not made for canvas stretching, and when they are not adequately braced, could warp over time.
We pride ourselves on the quality and durability of our stretcher bars and workmanship. Every canvas is braced with the right tension to ensure that your painting is less likely to warp so that it sits flush against the wall.

Framing methods
The simplest and most economical way of displaying canvas will be to just have it stretched. If you are thinking of stretching without a frame, we will recommend that you go for a deep stretcher bar to give the artwork more presence.

Stretched canvas without a frame
For a more finished look, we recommend adding a frame around the stretched artwork. There are several ways to frame canvas. Direct framing is a method where the frame goes directly around the edge of the stretched canvas.

In recent years, floater frames have become increasingly popular. The floater frame, meant for canvas artworks, creates a small gap between the stretched artwork and the frame. The canvas will look like it is floating within the box frame to achieve a sleek, modern and contemporary look.

If you would like to give your artwork more visual breathing space or a breakaway contrast, we can build a backing board to mount your stretched canvas and either line the border with silk, fabrics or have it painted black. With these options, the frame can be designed to look contemporary.

An interesting framing method is adding a silk box backing behind the framed canvas. This is to create more depth on the wall or change the layout of your original canvas piece such as landscape to portrait or vice versa. This method is highly versatile and injects creativity and boldness into your piece. It is also an aesthetically pleasing way to increase the overall size of your canvas if it is too small to fill up a big wall space.
